What is Stellar Dawn? Everybody is talking about it, but nobody really seems to know what it will be like. This guide will attempt to answer at least a few of the questions that you may have about Stellar Dawn.
So what is Stellar Dawn?
Stellar Dawn is the project name for a Browser-Based, Science Fiction MMORPG currently under development by Jagex Ltd, the makers of Runescape.
The release of Stellar Dawn was originally scheduled for the first quarter of 2009, however Stellar Dawn's release has now been postponed for an unknown period of time. It is now expected that Stellar Dawn will be be released before the end of 2009.
The Head of Stellar Dawn at Jagex recently announced "Forget about any dates you might have heard for its launch, we're not bound to them but to quality and excellence. The game will be released when we feel it has reached maturity, as simple as that."
Jagex also recently announced that the Beta Version of Stellar Dawn will only be available to existing Runescape Members, as a way of rewarding them for their loyalty.
It is important to note that the game may not in fact be called Stellar Dawn. Jagex have recently been considering changing the name to something else, so that they can further distance Stellar Dawn from Runescape. Their motto for Stellar Dawn since day 1 has always been "This is not RuneScape in space", so renaming the game to something that doesn't contain the 'scape' suffix is understandable.
What do we know about Stellar Dawn?
Jagex have revealed very little about Stellar Dawn so far, but we do know the following.
Stellar Dawn will be set in the future, and aimed at a much older audience than Runescape is. You will be able to play Stellar Dawn as one of four different races, with gameplay revolving around the tension between these races.
The first three of these races have been confirmed to be Humans, Pliigi and Robot/Mechs. The fourh Stellar Dawn Race is rumored to be Mortiga, however this rumour is based only upon some of the concept art that we have seen.
Jagex have stated that Stellar Dawn will be completely different to any other MMORPG currently in existance. Stellar Dawn is rumored to contain player-made vehicles and even player-made space ships, and the entire game will be planet based.
